Dimorphic Marking Guide

Dimorphic Markings are marking that are only present on Male Dinosaurs.  They are typically more brightly colored than their other markings and can mimic other markings. Only Male dinosaurs can have Dimorphic Markings!

How to Determine the Look of a Dimorphic Marking

The shape and color Dimorphic Markings is directly derived from the Dinosaurs' Father and Grandpa.  If one of these two relatives are missing in a Dinosaurs' heritage, you must use whichever one is present, but it will influence the Dimorphic Marking. If you are not sure which marking on the Father/Grandfather is the dinosaur's Dimorphic Marking, check the import information under the Phenotype!  There should be a breif description of the Dimorphic marking there to help you find it!

You must use the dimorphic marking from the dinosaur's father, but may mix it with either grandfather whether that be from the mother's side, or the father's side.

For example, the Dimorphic Marking on Brutus is the striped yellow pattern along his crest:

Now, if he had an offspring born and [for example's sake, this is not canon] the Grandfather was Moss:

The color would be somewhere between these two [or color-picked from one parent] and the pattern would either be a mixture of the two, or a direct copy from one parent.  An offspring cannot get BOTH Dimorphic Markings in their full range from their Father or Grandparent!  If you are going to be doing something that's a mix between the two, it must look like a mix and not just both markings stacked on top of each other! [This can be achieved by making the ranges of the markings shorter, the markings them selves more sparce or thin, ect]

Some acceptable Dimorphic Markings that could come from an Offspring with these two as the Father/Grandfather are shown below:
